Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Across Chad, IOM provides a comprehensive response to the humanitarian needs of migrants, internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities.

IOM’s border management activities in Chad are directed at supporting the Government to effectively institute appropriate migration governance, to strengthen border management through the construction and/or rehabilitation of border posts, and to improve collaboration and coordination with neighbouring countries, while engaging border communities. In Chad, key activities include
Capacity-building
Training of border agents on immigration and border management during the COVID-19 pandemic, transhumance management, countering human trafficking, addressing gender-based violence, migrant and traveller registration and document fraud.
Point-of-Entry construction and rehabilitation
In line with its mandate, IOM supports the Government of Chad in improving existing border infrastructure through refurbishment, the rehabilitation of electricity systems, the provision of office and IT equipment, the installation of software to facilitate the registration of travellers and ensure the security.
