IOM engages communities in northern Chad through complaints management mechanism in RESITCHAD project
Amdjarass, Chad - 2 November 2024 - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has deployed a training campaign in northern Chad to strengthen the Complaints Management Mechanism within the RESITCHAD project. This initiative by Chad, supported by the World Bank, aims to ensure transparent and accountable implementation of the project's activities, paying particular attention to the issues of gender-based violence (GBV) and sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA).
‘The Complaint Management Mechanism is an essential tool for ensuring the active participation of communities and strengthening their confidence in the RESITCHAD project’, O'donnell Ashling, accountability and monitoring programme officer at IOM Chad.
IOM teams have provided training to complaints management committees, focal points and local communities, equipping them with the necessary skills to:
- Handle complaints effectively: Master the entire process, from receipt to closure, with particular attention to complaints related to GBV, SEA and HS.
- Document and handle complaints: Establish clear procedures for documenting and handling complaints confidentially and effectively.
- Referring victims: Identify appropriate resources and refer victims to specialist services.
Alongside this training, IOM has developed appropriate communication tools (posters, leaflets) to promote the visibility of the complaints management mechanism and to raise community awareness of the importance of transparency and social accountability.
Funded by the World Bank, the RESITCHAD project is an initiative of the government of Chad and aims to improve the living conditions of the people of northern Chad by supporting community infrastructure and social initiatives. This training campaign marks an important stage in the implementation of the RESITCHAD project. By strengthening the Complaints Management Mechanism, IOM is helping to create a safer and fairer environment for the people of northern Chad, while increasing the transparency of the actions taken.
